The dim sim is an Australian dumpling, which was inspired by Melbourne chef William Wing Young’s, Chinese heritage. Enclosed in a thick, wanton like, case filled with meat, cabbage, and flavouring, then deep fried or steamed, it is often confused with the authentic Chinese cuisine ‘Dim Sum’, which unlike Young’s snack sized dumpling, involves a wide range of light dishes served alongside Chinese tea. The popular snack’s style and shape was first created 1945, with Young the first person to manufacturer them in Australia.
